Ivette is a published scholar on Federal Indian Law and holds lobbying experience at both the state and federal levels.

Ivette was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. as a young girl. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of California, Davis, with double majors in Psychology (Social-Personality emphasis) and Chicano/a Studies (Social-Policy emphasis). She then earned her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego where she distinguished herself as a Criminal Law Fellow, a published scholar on violence against women, and with her work at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., Immigration Center for Women and Children, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, ABA Immigration Justice Program, and the San Diego Superior Court. Ivette is a proud Alumna of MANA de San Diego's Latina Leadership Success Program and HOPE (Hispanas Organized for Political Equality) Leadership Institute.
